Surfacing.

So many things to report.

Much has changed in the brisk 6+ months that's passed since I left a decent post. I understand that it's hard to keep the attention of loyal readers when I write at the rate of 2 posts/year, but thank you for bearing with me. In my defense, I've moved (twice!), and have been otherwise consumed with an exciting job for the best new restaurant in San Francisco: Commonweatlth.

Nibby Co. designed the identity and menu system and also letterpress printed it all. Quite the job, but I'm so proud to be a part of the Commonwealth project! The food is just phenomenal (they use chemistry to gently manipulate ingredients, and layer flavor in such a clean and balanced way that something new and delicious is created), the space is warm and inviting, the service is beyond, and the value is astounding. More to come with coverage of the entire project and other bits, but a small tease courtesy of Jennifer Yin / Eater SF:

Enter If You Dare.

durian
I finally made my virgin voyage to Berkeley Bowl, a fierce competitor of the company I work for. To be honest, I wasn't nearly as impressed as I thought I'd be. Yes, the produce selection was vast, but much of it was from Mexico, Peru, Chile, etc., etc., and I just don't need my asparagus to come from a different hemisphere. Especially when we have such an incredible local produce selection! The organic section was also disappointing and small (and overpriced). But that's not to say I didn't buy a bag-full of the other stuff at a cheap price! I'm not a fool.

The whole point of going to Berkeley Bowl is to get that weird item that no one else carries. Case-in-point: the durian.

I had never actually seen a durian before, but I've heard about them. They have an intense, stinky reputation. When it caught my eye, I headed straight for it and proceeded to just stare. Then I touched it.

Mid-fondle, a woman came up to me and said hastily, "Don't do it!" To which I assured her, "No, I've heard about them." She went on to tell me how much her husband loves durians, but that they make her want to vomit. Then she walked away, poof. How can a fruit create such intensely opposite feelings?

Nibby Co.: Ho!

Although things have been quiet on the blog front here, I've been cooking up a few upcoming events! I'm very excited to announce that Nibby Co. will be attending both the PCBA: Book Arts & Printers Fair and Capsule/Union Design Festival!

MAY 15 > PCBA: Book Arts & Printers Fair
@Fort Mason Center

MAY 23 > Capsule/Union Design Festival
@Hayes Valley (along Octavia, between Grove & Fell)

Hope to see you all there! They're both going to be exciting events with loads of talented artists and crafters. And hopefully the weather will behave!

New Work: B-I-N-G-O.

My mother is turning sixty this year, and we're throwing her a big party in Oroville, my hometown. My mom is so many things: a teacher, a quilter, a guitarist, hilarious. At first it was a lot of pressure, I mean how do I distill the essence of my mother and the way I feel about her in one little invitation? Once I calmed down, I decided to have a little fun with it.

My intention was to create a quilted look with the background pattern, and added just a hint of yellow and a lot of transparent white. On the backside of the invite, I mounted a page of family photos, which was different on each invite. Included in the invitation suite is a little "Practice Test" with trivia questions that will come in handy for a game at the party.

My sister and I had such a delightful time coming up with the questions—it's moments like these that I'm so grateful to be in this field. I'm so happy that I could do this for my mommy dearest. Love you!

Breathtaking.

Check out these gorgeous floral arrangements created by Paxton Gate, one of my favorite stores in San Francisco.

I love the palette and the textures! Paxton Gate is my retail soul-mate (next to Anthro of course), everything there is exactly my taste. I was there recently and considered buying an air plant. My Venus Fly-Trap idea failed miserably, but perhaps air plants aren't quite as picky.

We're Still Here!

Sorry for the massive delay in updates, Nibby Co. has just undergone a huge move and we're still getting our act together. Thanks for your patience, and stay tuned!

Twenty-Ten Ho!

It's official: I'm over 2009.

It was a year of great personal and professional growth, but bittersweet none the less. I'm happy to report that I had zero cars stolen in 2009, opposed to the two that were stolen in 2008—however much of my sanity was stolen thanks to my ex-roomate, the bed bug.

There was an intensity with 2009 beyond any recent year that I can remember, but I take solace in the fact that it's not just me. We all felt it, we all experienced it, and now we move forward.

That will be my theme for 2010: advancement. Little by little, brick by brick, that's all I can ask for.

With that, I give you my January and 2010 goals:
monthlygoal6
December was a big month for Nibby Co. So much so, that we didn't even need to write our monthly goals down—we had it covered. You know what else? There's no need to review my last set of goals, because I got EVERY one of them accomplished. You heard me.

I honestly couldn't have done it without my family and friends, and I can't thank you all enough for your incredible enthusiasm and support. Thank you, thank you.

JANUARY Goals
≥ Get Etsy store up and running!
≥ Complete Big Cartel store setup.
≥ Buy postal scale and mailing materials.
≥ Complete printing second run of Hubble & Isa.
≥ Complete designs for Valentine's Day - 2 Isa and 2 mini.
≥ Print Valentine's cards.
≥ Brainstorm special Valentine's gift.

2010 Goals (so far)
≥ Set up two online stores (Etsy & Big Cartel).
≥ Launch website.
≥ Run a table at 3 or more art/craft fairs (Capsule, PCBA and Renegade).
≥ Expand Isa and It's Science collections to include 6 items each.
≥ Add coasters, journals and wrapping paper to the product line.
≥ Get a bookkeeper.

That's all for now. Hopefully I can follow-up with a post of lighter, more personal resolutions some photos from the holidays and what not.
