An Old Friend.

I recently found this old ABC book by Brian Wildsmith at my parents' house. I adored it as a kid, and looking at it now, I can see why. Look how beautiful this is (minus the stains, of course):

The illustrations for the book are gorgeous—I'd frame each and every one. The unicorn for "U" was always my favorite, though looking at it now, I could do less haunch and more horn:

And what the what, the unicorn and horse (for "H"), are almost identical. Come on!

As an adult, I think I now favor the goat for "G" illustration. I just love the look on that goat's face:

"What? Son!"

An Attempt.

Well, there goes my poor attempt at posting everyday. For shame. Below is the front & back cover for the latest SF Center for the Book exhibition catalog, designed by Nibby/SLIV (I haven't quite decided if SLIV would be a separate, custom design entity, or not, but it still lingers). This is one of those projects that started off slowly (due to the holidays), and then suddenly was due. I wish I had more time to spend with it.

The exhibition, Once Upon a Book, highlights the process and work of six children's book illustrators: Remy Charlip, Maira Kalman, Elisa Kleven, David Macaulay, Chris Raschka and Brian Selznick.

All of the work is lovely, but I really LOVE Maira Kalman's work. I mean, I would die to have a copy of this in my foyer:

Or this!

Gorgeous.

Greetings.

This is the first official post of the Nibby blog, a place where I will post inspiration, work in progress and finished work from Nibby, my letterpress ephemera company. I would like to dedicate this blog to Anibal, "Nibby," my grandfather, who helped me to appreciate good humor and suffered through countless hair-curling and makeover sessions, merely for my entertainment.
